Who are we?
Johnny
I am an artist, I work in oils and have exhibited in galleries in the UK and abroad. You can find out more at www.JohnnyMorant.com.
Julia
I work in renewable energy financing, specialising in large scale solar developments. My main skills include, contract negotiation, financial modelling and greek salad preparation. I am passionate about fighting global environmental issues and obeying orders from my captain.
What are we doing?
We both enjoy messing around in boats. In London we had a little electric powered inflatable that we would cruise the city's Canals on with friends. 2014/15 was spent in Amsterdam where we bought a day boat -the Sloop John B and spent many sunny weekends exploring the city. Things started to change when we considered getting a boat with a cabin that would allow us to go further afield. We Initially planned to convert a classic diesel powered boat to electric but the process was complicated and expensive. It then dawned on us that sail power would be the ideal way to travel -this however would mean we would need to be in open water. We began considering sailing boats and before we knew it I was on my way to Greece to see a man about a yacht.
The plan in 2016 was to live onboard Bumble bee for a few months and learn to sail. I continued to paint as I can easily work and travel. Julia took a well earned sabbatical from work.
Who is this blog for?
I like to think that friends and family may like to know where we are and what we're up to. I will be painting and sketching with the view to basing an exhibition on the trip. I plan to post my work to this blog in much the same was as I currently do on Instagram. I also want to keep this blog up to date to for the purpose of recollecting good times as well as mechanical issues!
Update 2024
We have now owned Bumblebee for 8 years. She resides mostly on the Spanish mainland within striking distance of Ibiza. We now have two very small children so find it hard to get out on her as we used to. This year we took our children out for a couple of short day sails. These seemed to go smoothly so we might be n the cusp of new adventures as a family of 4.
